Face It: Clinelle Purifying Cleanser

purifying

I was sent this Clinelle Purifying Cleanser by HiShop to test out sometime back. At first I was quite skeptical of it as it is stated that it is suitable for people with oily and blemish-prone skin. Now, I have an oily T-zone and very dry cheeks so I wasn't sure how this product would fare against said cheeks.

According to the website, this product is:

A purifying cleanser to thoroughly remove blemish-causing bacteria and soothe inflammation. It contains active compounds to help reduce blemishes, prevent future breakouts and reduce skin inflammation. Skin is left clean, clear and shine-free. Formulated and manufactured in Korea.

I've been using this for a few weeks now and I must say, it hasn't done too badly. I'm actually pretty impressed by it to say the least. No problems with the oily T-zone and very-minimal-to-no-tugging on my cheeks. I thought it would be too drying for my cheek area but had nothing to worry about. I can't vouch for the "reduction of blemishes and prevention of future breakouts" as I do get the occasional hormonal zit but overall, better than expected. I'm keeping this baby on my To Repurchase list!

The Clinelle Purifying Cleanser is priced at RM33.90 for 80ml.

Face It: Nature Republic Forest Garden Chamomile Cleansing Oil

Recently, I was one of the lucky bloggers chosen to review a product as part of  a collaboration between OnlyBeauty.com.my and Nature Republic for OnlyBeauty fans and bloggers. I am really excited to try out Nature Republic's Forest Garden Chamomile Cleansing Oil! Quite a mouthful though, so it will be called Cleansing Oil in this review for convenience sake.

Before reading on, you should know that I have dry and sensitive skin. Not exactly the best skin type to try out a lot of new products but when it comes to Korean products and the very popular Nature Republic, I didn't give it a second thought. Plus, when I went to pick it up, I was given this chamomile one which is suitable for sensitive skin! OMG, how perfect for me, it's as though they knew.

A look at the back of the box

I am always on the lookout for products, and especially cleansing products, that won't dry out my skin. As they say, the foundation is the most important thing. If I can't even cleanse my face properly, there's no point spending hundreds on the rest of your skincare regime.

The first thing I noticed about this product was the chamomile in it. I love chamomile in teas and other skincare products so it made me more interested in it. Then came the pretty yellow bottle! Now the cleansing oil is not particularly yellow in colour. The colour comes from the bottle. It has a very subtle scent, none of that cloyingly strong scents but a lovely one that smells sweet and calms you as you start your cleansing process.

Back of the bottle is yellow

I also love that the box is printed with soy ink on eco-friendly paper and therefore can be recycled.

Even better, the box has Braille lettering to help blind consumers read the products

When it comes to Cleansing Oil reviews, I know most people would try it out on cosmetics. So as a bit of a rebel, I tried it on something else! Something more...permanent.

Instead of using cosmetics as an example, I tested it out on my stamp!

Going, going....see how it's gotten lighter

Almost gone!

Recommended Step-by-Step Directions
Step 1: Apply a few drops of Cleansing Oil on dry face with dry hands and massage it all over the face.

Step 2Wet hands slightly and massage face again in a circular motion, Cleansing Oil should turn milky when combined with water.

Step 3: Wash off with warm water

I think it worked pretty darn well considering I tested it on an ink stamp instead of cosmetics. And I am sure that it would work as well, if not better, on cosmetics since it is an oil-based cleansing oil! I also love how it is not as oily as compared to some other popular cleansing oil brands. I don't like it when I feel that oily coating after washing off so thankfully, this cleansing oil did the trick!

It's also a good size, 200ml, to ensure freshness. As someone who doesn't wear a lot of makeup everyday, this is important as I wouldn't want to waste a big full-sized bottle just because I couldn't finish it before the expiry date.

This is actually my first time trying out a Nature Republic product but based on my experience with this one, I'll definitely go back and try out more!

Face It: Nature & Co Pure White Milky Lotion Light

As per the picture below, I received a joint sample of Nature & Co Pure White Milky Lotion Light along with its non-milky version, which I reviewed yesterday. This was thanks to HiShop's April Beauty Ambassador Programme.

Yesterday was the normal toner most people associate facial toners with, and today, it's the milky version's turn!

This sample consisted of 3ml, more than enough for the whole face. Too much for one usage really as it spreads easily and I had enough to apply to my neck as well! So just a little is enough, very economical.

A picture of the back of the sample for those of you who read Japanese. I can't so I had to get more info from the website, as shown below.
Again, I must say I love the packaging of Nature & Co's samples! So easy to tear open! No fuss, no spillage, no wastage!

Description:
  • Goes on with a fresh texture and blends delectably into skin. Whitening lotion that leaves skin moist, creamy, and exceedingly soft to the touch.
  • A whitening lotion that wraps skin with dry tendencies in a solid veil of moisture, leaving skin noticeably plump and firm.
  • Vitamin C derivative (base compound) suppresses melanin generation and wards off spots and freckles.
  • It has a lush, moist texture that won't feel sticky on the skin. Delivers a pleasant sensation with rich moisture you can feel.
  • It has a scent of fresh herbs that will make you want to breathe in deeply.
  • No artificial coloring.
  • Dermatologically  tested (Caution: this does not mean that the product is guaranteed non-allergenic for all users.)
Ingredients:
  • Organic marigold extract  (moisturizing)
  • Organic rosemary extract (moisturizing)
  • Vitamin C derivative (whitening)
  • Spring water (moisturizing)

If you read yesterday's post, click here if you haven't and want a comparison, you'd have read that I did not like that lotion/toner very much. But this one is the exact opposite! I really like this one! It's quite thick so you really don't need very much. Absolutely no allergic reaction against my sensitive skin, smells less herbal than the other lotion, much more pleasant really, and didn't sting my eyes at all. I was left with moisturized and supple skin instead!

And best of all, I used this right after washing off the Nature & Co Vital Purity Lift Mask I reviewed earlier here. This made my skin feel even better after the tightened skin. I recommend this lotion for those who, like me, have dry and sensitive skin. I like it so much that I may just pick this one up once my current lotion/toner runs out! I am THAT happy with it.
Nature & Co Pure White Milky Lotion Light consists of 130ml and costs RM 58.90

Face It: Nature & Co Vital Purity Lift Mask

I got a third Nature & Co sample sachet in my HiShop Box o' Goodies for participating in their April Beauty Ambassador Programme, This time it's a mask! I love masks! But this one is unlike any I have ever tried. Read on to know why!

This sample consisted of a generous 13ml! I didn't use very much as it was my first time trying on a clay mask and I didn't know how my skin would react to it. I believe this sample can actually last me 2 more times, that big!

A picture of the back of the sample for those of you who read Japanese. I can't so I had to get more info from the website, as shown below.

Description:
  • Tightens pores and smoothens skin texture
  • This cool-feeling lift mask smoothens out sagging skin
  • The natural clay ingredients banish dullness to produce soft, smooth skin
  • No artificial coloring
Ingredients:
Beauty Formulation:
  • Organic plant extract essence (moisturizing)
  • Organic lavender extract essence
  • Organic chamomile extract essence
Ingredients for healthy, firm, and lustrous skin:
  • Natural Vitamin E (emollient)
  • Collagen (moisturizing)
  • GABA (moisturizing)
  • Hot spring water
How to use:
Apply once or twice a week after washing your face. Spread an amount about the size of four cherries evenly over your face so that the skin is covered and rinse off after approximately 5 minutes. Apply skin lotion/toner to complete the skin treatment.

No expensive facial mud spas for me, just an at-home clay mask!

I really didn't know what I was expecting in this mask. But I'd guessed that it was a clay or some sort of deep-cleansing masks due to the 'Purity' word in the product title. And I was right, it is indeed a clay mask! And my first no less. I don't usually use or bother with clay masks as I have sensitive and already dry skin. And you'd think that deep-cleansing your skin would make it even drier. Right? Or is that just me?

Anyway, the mask is very thick texture-wise so start with a little bit and pile it on bit-by-bit. I think I only managed 1/3 of the sample sachet. Be warned: I do not recommend smiling, laughing, or even crying during the masking process, unless you're asking for trouble as it tugs on the skin pretty tightly! And since I used it while lounging in an air-conditioned room, I think it sort of sped up the process and made it even drier? If it's even possible?

After the allotted time, I went to take it off. I recommend wetting the now-dried mask with lots of water first, then only proceed to rubbing it off in a circular motion. I was pretty surprised at what I saw in the mirror afterwards! Not only did my skin look lighter and brighter, I think my pores actually shrank a size! No kidding! Very impressive. No tingly feelings, no redness, no allergic reactions. I can't say anything about the 'Lifting' bit as I believe (or don't want to believe rather) that I have saggy skin at my age? Just clean, smooth skin! I am a happy girl!

I also took the website's advice and used the Nature & Co Pure White Milky Lotion Light, reviewed here, after removing this mask for best results. And I was rewarded for it! And as I still have quite a bit of the mask leftover, I'm going to give it another go sometime this week! Unless it has completely dried up by then which would be a shame. And if the results are similar, am hoping for even more shrunken pores ya hear(!), I might consider getting me a tub!
Nature & Co Vital Purity Lift Mask consists of 140ml and is priced at RM 88.90.

Face It: Nature & Co Pure White Lotion Light

As part of the HiShop's April Beauty Ambassador Programme, part of my care package, if you will, contained some samples from Nature & Co. Now I've seen this brand in my local pharmacies but have never really thought much about trying them. I am happy to have been given the chance to do so without having to take the plunge and buy a full-sized product before testing it out.

The one I am reviewing today is the Nature & Co Pure White Lotion Light. This is like your normal toner, just a transparent liquid formula. If you don't already know, the word 'Lotion' in Asian culture tends toward toners rather than the usual Western term for moisturizer. In that sense you could say that is why Asians put an emphasis on the usage of facial lotions, with it being a moisturizing toner.

This sample consisted of 3ml, more than enough for the whole face.

A picture of the back of the sample for those of you who read Japanese. I can't so I had to get more info from the website, as shown below.

I love the packaging of Nature & Co's samples. I know I know, how hard can it be right? But you know that they actually care when it is easy to open up a sample sachet. This one is the easiest by far that I have come across. Leave it to the Japanese to perfect even the tiniest of details!

Description:
  • Whitening skin toner that penetrates easily into the skin to fill the skin with moisture and make your wish for pure and transparent skin come true.
  • Softens skin and boosts its ability to soak up nutrients, while at the same time delivering whitening ingredients deep inside the skin. It leaves skin healthy and teeming with pure translucence. Vitamin C derivative (base compound) suppresses melanin generation and wards off spots and freckles.
  • It has a lush, moist texture that won't feel sticky on the skin.
  • Delivers a pleasant sensation with rich moisture you can feel.
  • It has a scent of fresh herbs that will make you want to breathe in deeply.
  • No artificial coloring
  • Dermatologically tested (Caution: this does not mean that the product is guaranteed non-allergenic for all users.)

Ingredients:
  • Organic marigold extract (moisturizing)
  • Organic rosemary extract (moisturizing)
  • Vitamin C derivative (whitening)
  • Spring water (moisturizing)

I must admit I didn't quite like this one. I have very sensitive skin and although I did not develop any allergies after using this product, I felt it was a little too strong for my skin. The scent was also a bit strong for my taste, unless you really like herbal scents. Also, it may contain a bit more alcohol than my usual toners. I know when a lotion/toner is too strong for me when my eyes start to sting, that's one tell-tale sign for me. But of course, you should be aware that this might not happen to others so don't count it out just yet.

Nature & Co Pure White Lotion Light consists of 180ml and costs RM 58.90.

Face It: Timeless Truth Instantaneous Brightening Cooling Mask

Malaysia has been going through some of the worst weather in a very long time. It's so hot and humid you can cook an egg in the shade (not that I've actually tried). I am always drinking cold water and taking cool showers just trying to cool down. But when it comes to my face, I like to use masks.

Recently, I was one of the lucky bunch who got the chance to review a mask from a new brand in Malaysia in Plusizekitten's Easter Giveaway in collaboration with The Butterfly's Project - Beauty Bloggers. I received four masks in total, how generous! I was only expecting one!

And so, presenting the Timeless Truth Instantaneous Brightening Cooling Mask! Check out those snowflakes! Cuteness....the image truly reflects the purpose of the mask.

And it has cuts in the mask to help your skin breathe and to help the skin absorb all the serum's goodness.

The menthol in the mask was a welcomed respite from the heat. The mask is extra wonderful if you stick it in the fridge for a bit before putting it on, perfect for a little beauty boost during the day time. But as for me, I used it at night and as I was relaxing in my air-conditioned room, I didn't think I'd need the extra help of the fridge.

BE WARNED! I am no mask model. And the pictures below have been taken by myself with a DSLR camera so it was pretty difficult getting a good, balanced picture.

The reason there are some gaps visible is not because of the mask. But my oddly shaped face. Yes, I know it looks weird too. Feel free to move onto the next paragraph.

I was looking forward to the hyaluronic acid boost as well since that helps with plumping up the skin. I have dry and sensitive skin so I was not sure how the mask would fare against this challenge. But alas, it was fine. Better than fine really! It did not affect my skin in any way. No flare ups, redness, or any of those nasty problems I get when a product reacts badly against my skin.

After the usual 20 minutes, the mask had pretty much been fully absorbed and so it looked pretty dry. Compare the before picture with the one below and you'll see what I mean.

And the cutest bit, besides the snowflake on the packaging of course, is that my skin continued to tingle for a few minutes even after removal. My cheeks especially felt tingly and cool, something I have never experienced before. Very cool (pun intended)! That's not all! I thought that my skin looks slightly brighter after masking, even my facial scars looked somewhat lighter. No joke.

A look at the back of the package. It states the Ingredients, Directions, Skin type, Cautions, Validity, Manufacturing Date, Storage, and Manufacturer.

All in all, if you want a sheet mask that offers an instant brightening effect or just something to give you some relief from the heatwave, this is the mask for you! And at RM8, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Face It: Clarins samples from Jusco!

Today I was at Mid Valley getting my brand new haircut. Also, since I was there, I went and picked up some Clarins samples including the new Shaping Facial Lift, the old formula was already a bestseller so this one sounds promising too. Got my samples from a voucher within the Jusco magazine.

Check out the below pictures for more information.

The nice SA Affa gave me a consultation followed by 1 Shaping Facial Lift, HydraQuench Cream, and a Gentle Cleanser with Cottonseed.

A great day! Go grab your samples before they're gone!

They are also having this great promotion whereby the set comes with 2 Shaping Facial Lift (not full size though) plus 1 full-size Defining Eye Lift! The latter alone costs RM 152 according to Affa. And the twin Shaping Facial Lifts are apparently about RM 225 each. WHich brings the total to RM 602 but is now selling for RM 399! Sweet ain't it. Great for sharing too! While stocks last of course.

Also spotted Clinique roadshow, they are giving samples again but didn't bother since I still have mine. And it's the 3-step yet again so nothing new.

Till next time.

Face It: Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream, How Does It Stack Up?

Yesterday I talked about the Ultra Facial Moisturizer, today, it is one of Kiehl’s bestsellers, the Ultra Facial Cream’s turn! This one has quite a reputation. It was tested in Greenland by a special team of hiker who reported great results upon usage of this product. And knowing Greenland, this product still managed to perform under harsh conditions. If it worked for the hikers, think what this product can do for us living in hot little Malaysia.

Texture-wise, I find this one more lightweight than the Moisturizer. It ha the same fluffy white colouring found in the whole Ultra Facial range. Scentless yet again which is a thumbs up! I was given some advice by a KCR to use this very sparingly. Just a smidgen will do the trick. As you don’t need to use a lot of the product at one go, this tub is actually going to last you a very long time! Great for value-conscious consumers like myself.

Again, my dry cheeks soaked this baby right up! And surprise surprise, my T-zone quite likes this one too! I feel this Cream is much more suitable for me. I wake up to a very light sheen on my T-zone which is very good news to me. I believe this one is probably the closest I am getting to HG for now. Ain’t that grand!

Loves: no scent, very light texture, moisturizing for all skin types
Gripes: NONE!!

The Ultra Facial Cream comes in tub form of 50ml retailing at RM 100.

Disclosure: I was not compensated for this review financially or otherwise. Everything mentioned are my own thoughts based on my experience.

Face It: Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer, Ultra Good?

I am terribly late with the supposedly-daily Kiehl’s product review. I was in a jolly good mood, having just watched a detective with a keen eye and his dashingly handsome sidekick.

Today’s review will be about Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer. This product is one of three moisturizers in the Ultra Facial range targeted at all skin types. It is said to be easily absorbed and thus leaves skin soft and moisturized.

The lovely egg white colouring of the moisturizer is quite common place yet I expect better results from this one compared to other brands. The product doesn’t have a very distinct scent which is good for a facial product most people depend on to keep skin plump and glowing. The inclusion of several moisturizing oil piqued my interest even more! The product doesn’t have a very distinct scent which is good for a facial product most people depend on to keep skin plump and glowing. Plus, I found the texture quite light which is good enough for me. At my age of 20 plus, I don’t really need a very rich moisturizer just yet.

My dry cheeks found this product really moisturizing which made me happy. The skin on my neck and décolletage felt just the same which is great as I have had reactions from other brands before on my neck. Unfortunately, I found the Ultra Facial Moisturizer a tad oily on my combination skin T-zone. It would have been the perfect moisturizer for my moisturizer-obsessed self but for this fact. And now I will have to look again for that ever evasive HG moisturizer.

Loves: no scent, light texture, moisturizing for dry skins

Gripes: slightly oily on oily skins

The Ultra Facial Moisturizer comes in 2 forms, one with SPF and one without. I tried the one without SPF. The Ultra Facial Moisturizer retails at RM 70 for 75ml and RM 100 for 125ml while the Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 15 retails at RM 75 for 75ml and RM 115 for 125ml at all Kiehl’s outlets nationwide.

If you’re interested in the product, drop by for a sample and try it for yourself! Let me know if you have a different experience from mine.

The other moisturizer in the Ultra Facial range is coming up in the next review! Read about it and see how these 2 products compare.

* I was recently advised by a KCR to apply an even thinner layer of the moisturizer on my forehead instead of the slightly heavier hand I use on my cheeks. If there is a change in the T-zone situation, do expect an update!

Face It: Is Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1, Rave or Rant?

Now, in honour of the Kiehl’s Berry Birthday Party coming up, I have decided to review (or try to) 1 Kiehl’s product everyday.

First up is their Lip Balm #1! I have an equal amount of read raves and rants about this product. But as everyone knows, they don’t matter unless the product actually works on you! If they call it Lip Balm #1 there MUST be something good about it right? So, did it work for me? Let’s find out!

Here’s my story. A few months ago, on a Singaporean trip, the weather was bad. Really bad. It was scorching and blazing every single day. To cut it short, my lips ended up chapped, cracked, bruised, and painful! It was torture as I am quite sensitive to the heat of the sun. the worst part was that I smeared goops of my then favourite lip product, Vaseline, all over my lips. Just so you know it was an SPF 15 product and yet I got burnt! This sensation continued even after I returned home from my trip and with copious amount of yet again, Vaseline. But it wouldn’t budge!

Then a lightbulb went on in my head. What better time to try out the much touted Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1!? So off I went to the store and smeared some on while browsing through their many products. Just a few hours later I realized, the painful, cracked lips of mine had vanished! As if into thin air believe it or not. I ended up buying some of course. Nowadays I use Vaseline for my normal condition (I sill have to finish it up right) and Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 when my lips aren’t doing so well. How I wish I was introduced to it sooner! Think of the pain I could have avoided. I think the SPF 4 would have helped lots.

It has a nice texture too. Quite firm coming out of the tube, unlike the goopy Vaseline you get on hot days. This one has no scent so for those who dislike scented products, this is for you! The lip balm also comes in several seasonal flavours during the Christmas season but so far have not been very impressed by them. I found them too light in scent. It is also non-greasy which makes me like it so much more! I already bought a back-up! This baby is going in my carry-all every time I go on a trip. I am not going to risk getting sick lips again!

Loves: very moisturizing, no scent, firm texture, non-greasy, comes with SPF 4
Gripes: NONE!!

So far, I must say that this is my LE lip balm. Not even Chapstick has worked this good!

Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 comes in tube-form of 15ml as well as a small tub, of which I am not sure of the size. This baby retails at RM 29 at all Kiehl’s outlets throughout Malaysia.

Have you ever tried this product? How did it work out for you?

Face It: Kiehl's Ultimate White Surface Brightening Exfoliator, hype or HG?

I first read about the Kiehl's Ultimate White Surface Brightening Exfoliator a few months back on several other sites. At the time I did not know of Kiehl's but those rave reviews piqued my interest so I researched further. What I found out made me more confident in my desire to test the product. A big plus point is that Kiehl's gives free samples any day any time, and to anyone who asks. So I did what anyone in my position would do. I got a sample! That was then. And now is now. But how did it work out for me?

Well let's just say that I purchased the full-size when I was invited to VonVon's Kiehl's party! What is more, I got it on discount too!
The texture out of the tube is thick and quite coarse without water.

It's creamy white texture would make even Snow White envious. Honestly, my first time using the product was pretty rough. My fault though as I didn't add enough water to it.

Although you don't need that much water to create the lovely, foamy lather, an adequate amount of water is needed to dissolve some of the granules to avoid the exfoliator being too rough and scratchy on the skin. After some of the cream has been dissolved, tiny granules are left and this is what makes this gentle exfoliator a winner in my books!

After

After gentle scrubbing my face with this in a circular motion, I use the remains on my neck and decolletage. Hey, if it works on the face, it should be fine there too right? Well I am happy with the results. I am quite wary when it comes to facial scrubs due to my sensitive cheeks. But to my amazement, it didn't cause any redness. In fact, I notice that my cheeks were less red after using this. May it be due to the whitening properties? I don't really care about that really as I think I am quite fair as I am. My main concern was to get an exfoliator gentle enough for my skin yet gives me my desired results. And I believe I have found the one!

Loves: Gentle on my sensitive cheeks, exfoliates well, you don't need to use a lot to get results

Gripes: None so far!
My advice would be to use a little and lather it up. If you feel it is too little, then slowly add more. This way you cut down on wastage and can cater it to our own needs.

But do keep in mind that you should always patch test as not every product works the same way for others. This is where the samples come in handy.
This product is available at all Kiehl's outlets. It comes in a 150ml tube for the price of RM 105. So what are you waiting for, get your sample and try it out for yourself!
