Must Go's: Clarins "Power to Try" Workshop Update!!

On Saturday, 31/10/09, one of my girlfriends and I attended the Clarins "Power to Try" workshop held at their Training Centre in the AMODA building. Yup, it is the very one that was kindly organized by Miu. We went for the afternoon session.

Products for using and testing

All the sets ready to be taken home

Form with details, mirror, box of tissues,
cotton pads & buds, and personal bib

After everyone (or almost everyone) was in the room, Michelle started the presentation. We were introduced to Clarins' background, their founders, and taught about different skin types and products suited to those skin types. Some scary stuff were brought up, bringing the seemingly hushed room to a collective "Ooo..."

During the presentation we were taught how to properly care for our skin, from the cleansing to masking to makeup application. We got a sneak peek of their new Double Serum Generation 6 that helps "Boost" the 5 vital functions. Saw this in the papers a few days ago.

Some of the stuff I used:
Skin Care:-
Water Comfort One-Step Cleanser (Pink) - to remove makeup, dust....can also be used in case your water supply is cut (haha...)
Toner (Yellow) - Gentle toner that does sting eyes nor make my sensitive cheeks flare up
Beauty Flash Balm Mask - was adviced to try this instead of the HydraQuench Cream-Mask due to bruised tomato-ish shade of my cheeks
Eye Contour Gel - for day, refreshing feeling
BI-Phase Serum - needed lots and lots of hydration for my dehydrated skin...love
HydraQuench Cream - bring on the hydration!!
White Plus HP Sunblock - Clarins had to try to instill in us the importance of sunblock. Us lazy people.

No picture of me masking as I did not have the "white" face. Mine was almost skin coloured. Freaking orange shade when taken off with cotton pads though.

Pics of my gal pal and some other ghouls (I mean girls! sorry...it was Halloween!!)

Makuep:-
Complexion Perfector - can remove mascara smudges, used on the eye area
Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch - line filler, garnered lots of "Ooo"s from the crowd, myself included, going on my wishlist(!), really fills in those lines
Instant Light Perfecting Touch 01 - face base, 01 for fair skin, very light coverage, could still see my horrible spots
Blusher (Pink) - triangle style, only on apples of cheeks, never use below the nose line
Eye Lash Curler - could not get it to work, needed help, luckily for helpful assisstants!!
Instant Light Eye Base - helps absorb oil, gives eyeshadow more intensity
Double Fix Mascara - mascara sealer to help keep it from smudging
Lengthening/Volumizing/both Mascara - don't really dig mascara so I skipped this one
Refreshing Mist Long-Lasting Hold - to well, hold makeup in place, which it did.

Some of the stuff I used on my canvass

Michelle demonstrating the correct way to apply blush

Some of the things I learnt from the workshop:
1. A single eyelash takes 4 years to grow to full length! (gasp)
2. Always PAT excess water on your face. Don't wipe or fan with hands.
3. Sunblock is a MUST especially with the increasingly dangerous global warming happening these days.
4. Finally, how to do the Clarins Auto-Lifting Method! Been hearing so much about it yet not being taught how to actually do it.
5. Hydration masks (hydration ONLY) can be used everyday (yahoo!) AND do NOT skimp on the product!
6. Pigmentation take 5-10 years to appear. (scary much!)
7. A 3 step program is NOT enough! 6 is better.
8. The PROPER way to remove mascara (I do it the wrong way)

My mini haul and goodie bag!

If there ever is another workshop, event, anything, Count Me In!! Am now lemming some of those facials/body treatments/products!!!

Facials! Here I come!

A very big THANK YOU to Clarins and Miu for giving us all the "Power to Try" and discover the wonders that is Clarins for ourselves.

Face It: Kiehl's Ultimate White Surface Brightening Exfoliator, hype or HG?

I first read about the Kiehl's Ultimate White Surface Brightening Exfoliator a few months back on several other sites. At the time I did not know of Kiehl's but those rave reviews piqued my interest so I researched further. What I found out made me more confident in my desire to test the product. A big plus point is that Kiehl's gives free samples any day any time, and to anyone who asks. So I did what anyone in my position would do. I got a sample! That was then. And now is now. But how did it work out for me?

Well let's just say that I purchased the full-size when I was invited to VonVon's Kiehl's party! What is more, I got it on discount too!
The texture out of the tube is thick and quite coarse without water.

It's creamy white texture would make even Snow White envious. Honestly, my first time using the product was pretty rough. My fault though as I didn't add enough water to it.

Although you don't need that much water to create the lovely, foamy lather, an adequate amount of water is needed to dissolve some of the granules to avoid the exfoliator being too rough and scratchy on the skin. After some of the cream has been dissolved, tiny granules are left and this is what makes this gentle exfoliator a winner in my books!

After

After gentle scrubbing my face with this in a circular motion, I use the remains on my neck and decolletage. Hey, if it works on the face, it should be fine there too right? Well I am happy with the results. I am quite wary when it comes to facial scrubs due to my sensitive cheeks. But to my amazement, it didn't cause any redness. In fact, I notice that my cheeks were less red after using this. May it be due to the whitening properties? I don't really care about that really as I think I am quite fair as I am. My main concern was to get an exfoliator gentle enough for my skin yet gives me my desired results. And I believe I have found the one!

Loves: Gentle on my sensitive cheeks, exfoliates well, you don't need to use a lot to get results

Gripes: None so far!
My advice would be to use a little and lather it up. If you feel it is too little, then slowly add more. This way you cut down on wastage and can cater it to our own needs.

But do keep in mind that you should always patch test as not every product works the same way for others. This is where the samples come in handy.
This product is available at all Kiehl's outlets. It comes in a 150ml tube for the price of RM 105. So what are you waiting for, get your sample and try it out for yourself!

Disclosure: I was not compensated for this review financially or otherwise. Everything mentioned are my own thoughts based on my experience.
